Hi, All

I need to ship a printer around 15-20 pounds to someone

I heard the following shipping price

fedex ground < UPS < USPS ?

Is it true ?

btw, what is the difference between fedex saver and fedex ground ?

I also heard that fedex will automatically insured the package up to a certain amount or do I have to pay for insurance ?

pls advice

thanks in advance :)

I think it is Fedex>USPS>......>......>.....>last resort.....>....>UPS

Yes Fedex insures up to a certain ammount, they do a good job, but I normally ship via USPS because it is more convenient.

I wouldn't use usps if i were you to ship such a heavy printer. There's been horror stories about UPS but i've actually shipped 2 printers i've sold on ebay with them. Might not be the fastest option but it worked fine and there is good tracking information. Items should be insured automatically as long as its under $100. If there isn't a UPS around u, you can take it to a staples as they are an authorized ups shipping center. Fedex saver...hmm they seemed awfully expensive last time i tried it, i was shipping a motherboard in its retail box and they wanted friggin 15 dollars. It couldn't of weighed more than 3lbs.

For about 15 to 20 lbs, airborne express ground is cheapest, followed by fedex ground, ups ground, then USPS as the most expensive (in this weight class). Airborne, fedex, and ups all give you $100 insurance for free on every package. If you want to ship via UPS, do not go to staples.. they have about a 50% profit built into their UPS pricing. Take it to a UPS counter (at your local UPS office), or ship it online, to save more.

You sure they have a 50% profit built in? I shipped a super heavy printer, an EPSON 1270 (this sucker is huge, it does wide format printing) and staples charged me about 20 bucks. Thought it was reasonable...i mean i was charged like 25 bucks by the company i bought it from. I think staples do charge a small fee, but its no where near 50%...maybe a few dollars.
