Hi,

I want to network my desktop and laptop. My desktop installed Win2K and my laptop has Win98 SE. I am using switch and cables. I setuped a user for my laptop on my desktop. And I also followed the acticle on Anantech to configure my networking. But two computers can't see each other besides there was only once on which the laptop can see the desktop.
Thanks.

What? If you need to netnork you need to use an ethernet connetion, or a parallel connection. If you use a hub even better. They have to be directly connected, and then the network wizard should see the other computer. If not you haven't, and you are connected you need to set up your computer to be a network computer, and then the other should see it during network setup.

A switch and two patch cables will work fine assuming there are network cards in both computers. Both computers must be part of the same work group. Install TCP/IP and configure (I'm going to assume you already have this info). Install Client for Microsoft Networks. Install Microsoft File and Print Sharing. Share the C: drive on both computers. At this point both computers should be able to see each other and share files.

More info would have been helpful. Repost with more specific problems if they still won't hook up.

Some more inf.
I used switch and CAT5 cables. Two computers do have network cards. I also saw the light on the network cards.
The problem is my laptop installed many other protocols after I installed cardbus network card for my laptop. Do I have to remove some of them?
There are dialup adapter and Lan adapter.
Thanks.

Make sure that they are configured correctly thru the switch. I'm assuming you have DHCP setup on the router and both machines. The Desktop with 2k should be able to be seen at all times. The 98 you would have to share something for it to be seen. Make sure your workgroup name is the same. To ping go the 2000 machine dos prompt and type "ipconfig" this will give you the "IP Adress" the 2000 machine. Them go to the dos prompt on the 98 and type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" x= the IP of the 200 machine. If you get "Request timed out" they aren't connected. If you get a "Reply from ....." your connected. Good Luck!
