hi guys. i need help!
i just got my k7s5a board and installed it. the problem is that it won't boot up. nothing is showing on my screen and there is no usual sound from the mobo (beeping etc). i can hear the hdd moving and it detects my cdrom, but besides that, nothing else happens. what could be the problem?? pls help me thanks! what are the minimum things that are required to be hooked up in order for it to boot??

edit. i plugged in a xp 1700 in it. is that the problem? how do i determine if it's the cpu problem or mobo problem?

Power supply.

I'm battling the same situation right now. I built this K7S5A system a year ago and it froze during bootup some time last month. After buying another K7S5A (hey, it ran well for 11 months, and my older K7S5A is still churning happily), I notcied that some of the other devices were not powering up. I just bought a new PSU today, in the hopes that it will fix the problem.

The forums at www.ocworkbench.com has a plethora of info on this board and its nuances. I'll post an update once I try the new PSU.

In order to post, you need:

CPU + heatsink and fan connected (duh, I know)
RAM (at least one slot - use SDRAM OR DDR, not a combo)
video card + monitor (you wanna see these things)
power switch on the mobo (although you can bridge that jumper manually, if you wish)

Everything else will take you further (keyboard, CD-ROM, and HD to install a new OS)

Well, try all of those 4 (if you can):

* Reseat the AGP video card. AGP can be tricky to insert.
* Reseat memory, or better, replace it... If you have two memory sticks, try taking one out, replace with the other, etc..
* After that it's the mobo or CPU. With only few devices hooked up, I don't believe the powersupply is holding you from posting.
* Also check that the reset BIOS jumper is set correctly (i.e. to not reset the BIOS). I believe ECS had some issues with that over a year ago, maybe it happened again.

But it is possible that the Mobo is dead.
