my specs:
amd athlon 64 3200+ 939 oem chip (new)
msi neo2 platinum edition (new)
cooling is thermalright xp-90 with 92 mm panaflo fan
artic silver applied to cpu core
2x512 pdp (patriot) pc3200 with xbl technology (new)
200gb ide seagate hd (new)
evga geforce4 ti4200 128mb (used from my old working comp)
enermax 420 watt noisetaker (new)

right now i hooked up the video card, ram, cpu, and hd. hd is on master on ide1. and vid card is in agp slot.
i applied artic silver 5 just like it said on the instructions here http://www.arcticsilver.com/ar...ilver_instructions.htm got the thermalright xp-90 on just fine. i know my power supply is fine. it is powering up the fans on the cpu and northbridge and powered up my old computer as well. i tried booting with 1 stick of ram first in the first dimm slot. no go. i then proceeded to swap dimms and try 2 dimms. still no go. (computer powers up but nothing is displayed on the monitor. well... fans run at least.)

what steps should i take from here? try another video card? maybe bad cpu or motherboard? try other ram? argh so frustrating!!! any help would be appreciated? live in illinois? i'll drive to your house!

thanks in advance,
extremely sad

if you have other stuff available to use then just use trial and error....also try just taking everything out and reseating.......is the CPU/heatsink warm.....is there any evidence of power getting to them...

Is there a fan on the video card...if so is it spinning??

This used to happen to a computer of mine every time I tinkered with the case ... my problem was the reset button was poorly designed and would actually get stuck down and I wouldn't notice it. With the reset button stuck down, then I powered the system on I would get fans and lights but no post, display, or disk activity.

I would suggest checking your connections and make sure your reset button isn't stuck if you have one, you might even want to try to disconnect it. Make sure none of the case connectors to the motherboard are shorting out or plugged into the wrong pins ... hopefully it's something simple like that.

hmm, yeah the vid card is spinning. i cant tell if power is getting to the cpu? should i just touch it see if it is warm? aluminumstudios i only have the power switch hooked up to the mb so i can start it up. the rest are not plugged into the pins.

Hmm, if the power switch is the only thing you have connected right now, then it's not the same as the problem I had and I'm not sure what to suggest other than beginning the process of elimination by swapping out parts ... I'd probably try another video card first ...

Sorry I can't suggest anything more precise is solving this.
