Staples.com has the Plextor PlexWriter 40/12/40x for $241.99. There are @ 900 available. It is item# IM1-157639.

PM this to Dell.com small business which has it for $178.95. You might be able to get staples to honor Dell's dicounted price of 15% off (find code online) and PM this down to $152.11 (more info about this in THIS thread). Free Shipping from Dell.

Then tell Staples that you want to use the $30 off $150 code which will bring this down to $122.11 +TAX. Damn hot!

BTW: I don't want to hear any whiners telling me that Staples.com wont PM and honor codes at the same time. This deal can be done! And as an added bonus you can get the "Free 3-piece luggage set (SKU# 459784) with purchase of $100 or more!" (look online for this code, or PM me for either one.) BTW, you can use both of these codes together because one is a free item and one is a discount.

enjoy, Epsil0n

Possibly smoking hot, but a few words...

Yes, it can be done. However...I did a similar deal that wasn't as complicated with the 24x drive through staples. They acually called me back to tell me they wouldn't honor it. After spending HOURS upon HOURS of talking with them I finally got them to honor the $30 coupon with the PM. I could have made 3 times that working instead of talking to them. You might say...it's not like you were at work, or you could do it in your spare time? I was at work when they called me. I spent an hour at work talking to a CSR only to spend another 30 mins talking to her supervisor and a few minutes while she talked to her sup before they finally agreed to give me the pricematch and coupon like the sales lady processed originally.

Go for it if you have more time than work to do. Otherwise, look for a legitimate deal. Yes legitimate. This is obviously against their PM policy. While they may process the deal, they have every right to deny it. That wouldn't stop me from trying to get the best deal possible, and I'm not saying this isn't a hot deal. Just know what you're getting into before you try it. Also, don't come back to moan that you got screwed because your ordere was cancelled. I warned you they are doing that now.

EDIT: Better to try and get the legitimate 110% PM. Wouldn't be as good as the coupon, but would be within their policy if you get a friendly sales rep.

Epsilon: I can't find the Plextor at their site. How did you find it at Staples.com?

Yeah, that's the other issue... this is a special order item from Ingram Micro. When you call 1800-3STAPLES and ask them to look up the item#, they will find it. Their policy is that you can't PM a special order item, but they usually don't catch this detail.

This deal will take some time like noted above... the hardest part will be getting them to honor Dell's 15% off.

The secret to getting them to PM and accept coupons at the same time is to call, place you order, PM to Dell.com, then tell them you have a meeting to go to and to put the order on hold. Call back, make sure you're talking to a different CSR, and tell them you have an existing order. Then tell them that you were thinking of adding something to the order, but decided not to. Then when they tell you the total cost, tell them you want to use a coupon. They usually wont realize that a PM has already happened.

*One other piece of advice: Keep track of who you talk to and if someone tells you "No" make sure not to talk to them again.
**One more: Don't give them personal information until you know that they'll PM for you, otherwise, if you call back multiple times, there will be a bunch of canceled orders on the same day for the same item... this raises suspicions.

Good luck.

Also don't forget. I've heard a lot of people getting shut out because of Staples' BS policy of including overnight shipping when pricematching web prices because "you're getting the product now."

My suggestion was to tell them to hold it for you , so you can pick it up next week. Then will they only charge ground shiping???:) I don't think anyone has tried that yet.

How u get Ingram item numbers is when u have someone inside that u know.

Ingram carries hell shies like geforce3 cards firewire stuff etc.

Ingram is the biggest they supply to Intel, bestbuy, staples.

They only sell to resellers.

its just a matter of looking in their database.

If you have a reseller id u could set up an account with them.

If not you are stuck buying stuff from staples they buy stuff in large quantity.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

>>>how exactly do you figure out ingram micro numbers for these things?<<<

If you are a reseller and have one of the huge Ingram print catalogs, it's simply a matter of looking up the item in the catalog :)

I tried a similar thing when they claimed they couldn't use second day air as the shipping price when they would take 5 days to ship special orders. I told them to ask the other company how much they would charge to hold the product for three days then ship it second day air :D
