Plextor UltraPlex 40X Max Failed again...

I understand that there is more than one version of these drives. Which one is the one that really works?
The first drive that I bought failed to read CDRs, I used to get blue screens.
I was told by plextor tech support that the first CDrom wasn't as good as the replacement that they shipped me and they assured me that this replacement was like a rock "their words" not mine. Well, it is not like a rock. It failed again.
I was burning a CD (CD to Burner) and I got an ?output device error?. Then I tried to burn from the hard drive, the burner did not report any errors, and it just recorded it successfully. This thing never happened before. The other complain is that the unit takes too long to read a CD in the beginning, I?d say about 20 seconds. This is not normal for a Cdrom; even a cheap IDE cdrom wouldn?t take that long. How far do I have to go in order to get a good drive from them?
Any suggestions? Please
