Plextor slowing computer?!

Hey ive got a question....i have an epox 8k7a+ and 1.4 tbird using the highpoint hpt370 onboard raid with 2 ibm deskstar 75gxp 40gig. And i have a Plextor 40/10/32a. when i burn a cd in adaptec cd creater 4 my whle computer slows down, mouse gets jumpy, and sounds gets poppy. Anyone know what the best driver for the highpoint are or what i can try to do to fix this?...btw this is on a win2k sp2.

seriously though is the drive using DMA??
Device Manager > IDE/ATAPI Controllers > Primary IDE/Secondary
IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode > DMA if available >
