Plextor SATA dual layer DVD-RW making weird noises

Whenever I boot up my computer or insert a disk into my new plextor dvd-rw, it makes this really loud *whizz* noise.

Is this a problem? Should I ask newegg/plextor for a replacement?

Possibly the way you mounted it. Use shorter screws to mount it - the shortest that will work to keep it in place. And use the middle row of holes in the drive only. Be sure not to distort the drive housing when mounting. See if that helps.
