Most SATA II chipsets should support ATAPI drives, but... Make sure before laying out the money - only a few SATA I chipsets support ATAPI. They are usually the same as their PATA counterparts - no faster, no quieter. Most of them use an IDE to ATA bridge chip anyway - I don't think any of the Plextors have native SATA on the PCB. Just like most HDDs, the only real diff. is cleaner wiring.
