I'm considering purchasing a Plextor PX-W1210TA/SW CD-Writer and would like to know if there are any known issues using this CD-Writer with a Kenwood 72x cd-rom and an ASUS P3V4X Motherboard.

I'd also like any advice on what software to use with this CD-Writer? I've heard good things about Nero and Adaptec CD Creator, but would like to know if both support Plextor's BURN-proof technology?

Thanks in advance,

you might have problems keeping DMA enabled... with a via based board but besides that it should work fine..

also Burn-proof is software independent as far as i know...

Should not have any trouble. As long as you use the VIA IDE drivers right. Or in Win2k or WinMe the IDE works fine without anything from VIA, and don't load the VIA ones in WinMe by force. The ones MS wrote for Me are way better than VIA's

Yeah, in WinME or Win2k, don't bother installing the IDE drivers. THey'll cause more headaches than it is worth(especially in ME).

I can get dma enabled in both me and 2k.

only install the VIA IDE in win98se though. If you try to force install in winme you will cause major problems.

Thanks everyone for all the advice/info. Just ordered the Plextor CD-Writer from Buy.com using a $30.00 coupon. Also decided to use Nero with it.

Thanks again,

I can set mine to DMA in WinME... but when I reboot, the drive doesn't show up. This is with an Asus CUSL2. At any rate, the drive works fine without bein in DMA, so... whatever. ;)
