Plextor drive's lost their hype a long time ago. They aren't worth the money, rebate or not. You can get a better performing NEC or Lite-On drive for less money without a rebate.

I still love my old Plextor SCSI CD Burners ...

Now though ... I'm looking to try some of the new Native SATA Burners.
