Plextor problems - I couldnt leave well enough alone

Hey all, I was trying to get an old scanner to work on my system the other day. In the process, I messed with the aspi layer, installed some new drivers for the scanner, etc. Now, I can't get my plextor 12/10/32 to burn anything. I mean Im making coasters left and right. Anyone have a couple of quick suggestions about how to fix this mess?

Its the ide version. I used aspi check to make sure the drivers were good, and it says they are. I upgraded them to the newest version. The odd thing is that the burn I did overnight said it went ok, but then when I went to read it...😛~~~~ nothing:disgust:

Is there anything I might be missing? The aspi drivers are the layer between the drive and the os, right? Is there anyway of checking the quality of a burn without using up another of these discs?

P.S. Bartman: thanks, Ill check it out.

Yeah I completely pulled that stuff. I have been getting burns to work with my imation media, which is making me think its the new media I bought. It was the fujifilm deal at compusa...odd because it is that taiyo whatever stuff. Supposed to be top of the line.

If anyone can think of a reason 74min media would work and 80 min wouldnt, please tell me or else this stuff is going back.

I have had similar problems with an older Teac 4X SCSI burner. It seems to me it was my ALI Super7 chipset. What chipset is your motherboard???

It a tx chipset. Actually the motherboard is the asus tx97-e..Im pretty sure that isnt the cause, since it was working fine until I started trying to mess with the scanner.

New wrinkle: Ok, Im starting to believe that the real problem only comes about when I try to record 80 minute cds. Im doing game backups; the games that fit on 74 minute cds almost always burn clean, but the 80 minute cds are not functioning in the machine.

Does anyone think I might be able to clear the problem by reinstalling the burner, the aspi layer, and the burning software?

I have the same exact problems with my plextor. I thought i might of broke it now i see i'm not the only one with it. I burn a cd and then put it in another rom drive and all i get is locked up coaster.

Well, I did a full reinstall of the entire cdrom package. I pulled the plextor out of the system, uninstalled all adaptec software, and removed the aspi layer. Then I went and put everything back in, one step at a time. I havent tested this yet, but Im hopeful this should solve the problem.

Did you change the reg cd rom to slave and the burner to master? i switch the jumpers but i am still having the same problems.

Only have the plaxtor in now, and it i jumpered to master. That isnt the problem here, it is that I cannot get good boots off of images Im making. Still havent solved it though.

Your problem is not able booting off the Plextor?

This might seem obvious but you set the CDROM to boot before the harddisk in the BIOS, right?

Actually, I am trying to make some backup copies for my dreamcast. i know, I know, but the issue is whether there is some incompatibility between plextor and disc juggler.

Update: Well, I finally burned a game correctly this afternoon. I just forgot about disc juggler and went step by step through the cdirip instructions. I'll try one more to be sure, but I think I may have it licked.
