Plextor: Overrated, or worth the extra cash?

I know plextor makes the best CDRW drives, I'm not debating that, what I want to know is this:

Do you folks think that the plextor is that much better than other drives, that it's worth the extra price?

I know that plextor is the best...but my 8x8 Yamaha was $70 (canadian) less than the 8x4 plextor, and almost $200 less than the 12x10 plextor. I bought the Yamaha, 20 jeweled gold kodac CDRs and an ATi TVWonder and it cost me less than the plextor 12/10 would have buy itself. And I still have money left over, which I'm going to use to buy an optical mouse next week (they were out of stock).
Plextors are nice, but they just aren't worth that much more to me.

What do you guys think?

My friend has a SCSI Plextor CDRW and a CDROM and he can burn straight from one to the other. He says that he has made three coasters in the last year. To me that says they are worth the money... Good Luck.

Plextor is the sony of burners. Always good quality but high priced. Depends what you are gonna use it for if its really worth it.

plextor is not only a high qualtiy burner but also has all the black book features I know of. overburn, is one i can think of and I know I can use clone cd with my plextor (12/10/32 ide) if I use it as a sourc and destination. On top of that it rips audio faster than almost any other cd reader that is rated at the same speed. As for the higher price I don't think plextor drives are that much more expensive. i believe u can get a sony 8/4/32 ide drive for around 150 if you look realy hard. You can get the plextor 8/4/32 ide for around 175 I believe.

Plextors are especially worth it if you ever want to copy something you're not supposed to copy.
I had a Yamaha before I got my Plextor burner and it was adequate for most burning. But I decided the Plextor was worth it...and I don't regret it :)

Thanks for the input guys. It was a spotaneous purchase for me :) and the plextor was out of stock, besides I don't plan to use it to terribly much, so I think the plextor would be overpriced for me, but I'm actually asking for a friend of mine, he plans to do alot of burning and wanted to know.

He's decided on the Plextor.

Now his question is, should he get the 12/10 IDE or the 12/4 SCSI
He doesn't really care about ReWrite, he just wants to know if 12x IDE w/ BurnProof is better than 12x SCSI w/o.

He's got an IBM 75GXP, Maxtor DiamondMax40+ and Zip Drive on IDE
He's got a Quantum Atlas V and Pioneer 303S (6x) DVDRom and Plextor 40x CDROM on SCSI right now.

So he's got both IDE and SCSI and probably will have for a while, he can't decide which burner to get.

Edit: He had a 4x4 HP SCSI before and managed to kill it in just over 2 years...so that's a concern to, is the SCSI Plextor better quality than the IDE?

Couterstrike while burning at 12x!

Get the SCSI version since he has the card already. It will make a good match up with the 40x plextor cdrom.

Quality if excelent. We have a plexwriter 4x at work with a 12plex to go with it. going on 4 years on burning and barely a hicup.
