I need some help in making a decision.
Which SCSI CD-RW should I get for my SCSI System?

A Plextor 12/10/32S or a Yamaha 16/10/40S?

I would like you to give reasons as to why you think one is better than the other!

What are the Pros and Cons of the BurnProof v 8Meg Buffer (is one better than the other for SCSI?)

TIA

Don't think you'll go wrong with either pick... I used to use Plextor until I upgraded last and saw there prices so I went with Yamaha. Haven't been disappointed at all.

I love my Plextor 12x10x32 :) In any case, besides the burn speeds for CDR, they seem about even in quality and features. I'd go for the Plextor if you *really* hammer your HD's while burning, but the Yamaha 16x would burn stuff a bit faster to CDRs if you burn a lot (save about a minute or two). With 8MB and SCSI, well, it probably won't matter if it didn't have BurnProof (TM).

I typically use CDRW's far more than CDR's so I opted for Plextor since it was cheaper. VOTE: Plextor because it's cheaper!

So, if I had them side by side - and they were the same price ---- Which One?

If they were the same price I'd never be able to decide, I like Plextor but my Yamaha SCSI CD-R/RW drive has never given me problems.

If they're the same price, why not get the Yamaha and save a little time everytime you burn a CD?

Oh yeah, the Yamaha should be able to do 40X DAE just like the IDE version shouldn't it?
I'd consider that extra incentive to go with Yamaha.

To tell you the truth (and I am still undecided) I have heard nothing but good things about the Plextors and mixed about the Yamaha.

Being a SCSI and all I don't know if either the BurnProof tech or the 8 meg will make a difference.
I have also heard the Yamaha won't make the claimed speed(s).

Any comments on this.

AND, are the tray assemplies on the Plextors flimsy like the Yamaha 4416s, or what?

Yamaha makes a very good CD-R, but if they are same price I'd go Plextor. Especially because of the burnproof technology. My next CD-RW will be Plextor and I currently have a Yamaha 16x2x2 CD-RW. Get the Plextor and you won't be disappointed.

Yamaha didnt make a 16x2x2 CD-RW. Also, since he's getting SCSI, burnproof wont be as significant. Plus, you cant go wrong with Yamaha either! :p

Lxi,
Sorry I meant 2x2x16. But does going SCSI eliminate coasters? Never heard that one before.

SCSI doesnt eliminate coasters, but it lowers the chances by a big margin, thats why I said burnproof wont be as significant.

OK, thanks for the info. All is informative. I just got back from reading the reviews at some sites given here and it looks like both are not at the top of the list. Yamaha appears to being having problems with their 1st iteration of the SZ and the Plex doesn't look like its always at the top either. Let's change up just a little and assuming a 300.00 limit, what is the BEST SCSI Drive out there, if it isn't either the Plex of the Yamaha?

You guys certaily have some good info!
