I've recently added a NF7-S board and an XP 1700+ cpu to my comp and I have it all set up and running well...except for one problem.

My Plextor 12/10/32A burner is not showing up on XP. It shows up in the BIOS fine and dandy, but not in My Computer. I can't figure out how to make it work, it's set up as the secondary master with my other cd drive as its slave, and that drive shows up fine. Does anyone know how I could fix this? Do I need to flash the BIOS? Updating firmware doesn't work because it doesn't recognize the drive.

Please help a n00b out! Thanks!

I dealt with a similiar issue like this a couple of days ago when a friend of mine installed a USB Flash card reader, the Flash card reader would take the CD-ROM's drive letters and the CD-ROM's would disappear in his Win98 machine.

Fixed it by using TweakUI, I can't remember the exact tab, but it's where all the drives are listed A-Z, I noticed his CD-ROM's got bumped to say K & L, but they were unchecked, I re-checked them and they showed up again after a reboot.

I also remember a thread around here about fixing that issue, I'll try to find it.

Edit: For some reason I can't find squat on it! :(

See if any of these help.

Okay, got it to work...sorta.

Now it shows up, but when i try to burn something in nero, I get a coaster and everything turns to poopie...processes slow up the comp a hundredfold...so much so that I have to restart it.

I took the chance of updating the firmware from the plextor website but it still won't burn. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, when I burn, it fills the buffer, gets to about 5% and says "SCSI/IDE drive error." What's that mean?

Couple of things about the Nero:

  • Re-run your nForce2 driver installer, but this time, answer "No" when the prompt asks to install the SW IDE drivers
  • Get the latest & greatest patch for Nero if you haven't already
This is a known issue and the above two items practically always fix it. Hope that helps you out :)
