Plextor M6M Firmware Update

Hello,

I have the Plextor M6M msata ssd installed in my Drobo 5N and I would like to update the firmware for the msata ssd to the current 1.03.

I don't believe the update can be done via the Drobo, however I have no idea how to update the firmware.

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks and take care!

Do you have a PC you can plug the Plextor drive into and update through Windows?

Or, is there a problem with the drive you need the update to fix?

Thank you for the response! I have a Gateway GM5088 which I don't believe has a slot for this drive. No, the drive is functioniong properly as far as I can tell, however I felt it was prudent to update the firmware if possible.

I know that with computers it is hard to follow the mentality of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but I think that mentality would be good to follow here.

Thank you! Fair enough. I was thinking of contacting Plextor to assess whether there is a need to update the firmware. Thanks again!

Agreed, I wouldn't bother updating unlessyou really need to. See if you can find anything about release notes or known bugs they fixed. If anything seems like a game changer, then explore it. If its just little things, don't worry about it.

The Firmware notes for the updated versions are:

Plextor M6M
Date Version Description
2014/04/15 1.02
This firmware revision improves:
1. Compatibility on DELL, HP, Lenovo
platforms.
2. Drive health and error recover capability.

2014/06/12 1.03
This firmware revision improves:
1. A known lag problem under few specific
condition of usage.
2. Performance consistency

I currently have 1.01 version. It appears based on the drive health and error recover capability in version 1.02 and performance consistency in version 1.03, that it would be worthwhile to update the firmware.

Thoughts? And if you concur, then now what do I do?! lol

I haven't had my Plextor drive for awhile but when I did I upgraded the firmware a couple times. Note this was for a M3 drive NOT a M6M so it might vary.

1.DL firmware and burn to cd. Reset machine.
2.Enter BIOS and switch SATA from AHCI to IDE. Reset machine.
3.Put the cd in the drive and wait for the firmware software to update.
Make sure cd/dvd drive is your first boot option. Restart machine.
4.Enter BIOS and change SATA from IDE back to AHCI. Restart machine and let
Windows load.

For some reason I'm unable to access the BIOS on my computer. I always get just a blank screen after pressing the <F2> function key.

Are you sure the F2 key is the right one for your MB? It can vary depending on manufacturer. On my Asus it's the Del key. I'm not familiar with a Drobo 5n but a quick search looks like its a file server. Have you tried the manufacturers website and looked through the fqa's yet? Does it give any audible beeps or other error messages or just a black screen?
