Interesting...according to the datasheet it uses the same controller as the C300 so it's basically a Crucial with a massive cache.

No, the Plextor is not "basically a Crucial". Micron/Crucial do not use the reference Marvell firmware, but rather write their own firmware. Micron specifically tunes for high 4KB performance.

I'm curious about this SSD as well.

I've been waiting like half a year for the 990X to come out, and now that it is the only thing holding up my new build is a new SSD. Crucial M4 and Intel 510/320 won't be out for maybe another 45 days, but Corsair and now Plextor seem to be out now...

Their CD drives USED to be good (I owned a bunch, in fact I still have a SCSI-based caddy 12 Plex in a box somewhere - last and fastast constant data rate drive made), and I generally had good success with their DVD burners, but frankly the brand has lost pretty much all of the prestige it once had.
