Plextor "jumper" hack - any ill effects?

Putting a Plex 12/10/32A in my rig. Seem to recall putting a jumper on the mystery pins on the ends lets it run in ATA mode? Anyone hear of this producing any benefits or ill effects?

I've had the jumper off with no problems and the drive running in UDMA mode 2.

Mine has had the jumper for about a year, and never had a problem...


I tried taking it off once since people said the newest firmware had DMA2 enabled, but it didn't work, so back went the little jumper.
