My Plextor 16/10/40A is being detected by windows XP as a SCSI drive, even though it is plugged into the IDE bus on my motherboard, an Epox 8k7a+. Any Ideas on why this would be or how I could fix it?
Try this:
Open up Device Manager
Delete the CDROM first, the delete the IDE channel that it is attached to
Reboot your computer and let Windows reinstall the IDE channel and CDROM
Thank you for your idea techfuzz. Though it did not solve the problem it directed me towards the issue. It turned out that there was an IRQ conflict between my Secondary IDE bus and my SCSI Host Adapter. The CD was on the secondary host adapter, which was being overridden by the SCSI bus, tricking XP into thinking that it was SCSI. I put it on the same IDE bus as my Primary IDE hard drive and it works now.
