Yupe2.

Btw, what's the fastest SCSI Burner out there?
I'm still happy with my 12x Plextor SCSI Burner, but maybe later on have spare money, maybe time to upgrade :)

if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I love my Plextor SCSI 12x burner. Never even thought of giving me the slightest problem. So why would I switch? esp. to a 24x.. which in reality translates to burning my CD's about 1 or 1.5 minute(s) faster.

Nah.. reliability counts in my book. And If I can't wait 1 extra minute for a CD to burn then I'm in way too big of a hurry.

but that's just my 2 cents.

Well, between me and ripthesystem, that adds up to 4 cents because I wouldn't get rid of my 12x SCSI Plex for a 24x either.

Let's make it $0.06 , my Plex 40X and 121032x combo has been workin fine for the past 2 years and burns everything I throw at it.

I'd have to agree with the previous post...I too am more than happy with my 12x scsi. Never made a coaster and its still fairly quick in my book. A 24x would shave of a couple minutes, but thats not worth the investment in a new burner....besides it would mean having to get IDE

Some of the earlier firmware updates for the 161040a dealt with the laser power calibration which directly affected the longevity of the laser assembly for that drive. It also improved data integrity by tweaking the laser strength for more accurate burns. There are other improvements that are worth getting like lowering cpu overhead, and speed is important to some of us as it adds up when we burn many at a time.

my Plextor SCSI is humming long fine. I just upgrade my second comp with a 40X Lite On. I didn't expect much, but was amazed when it burned the CDs in 1/4 the time, under 3 minutes for almost everyone. Wow.
