Plextor drive PX-716A and back up software questions

It?s that time of year again.
I will be buying more DVD movies, and getting several for Christmas gifts.
I watch them and then I loan them out, and they come back with scratches or don?t come back at all.
What is the use of trying to build DVD library if they are all scratched or get lost.

My family and friends loan me their DVD movies and I take care of them.
I would like to continue loaning my DVD movies
So what to do?

Buy a Plextor PX-716A DVD +-R/RW CD-R/RW internal E-IDE drive to put in my PC. The drive comes with this software, PlexTools, Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, and Dantz Retrospect.

So I have a lot to learn.
I need a DVD drive that is compatible with my PC, and that is able back up the different formats
I think this Plextor is.
I don?t know what it is called, but then I need to have the software that can do the job of coping. RIP, or break Region codes.

Any comments that might help me I would appreciate it.
Will this drive do what I want?
What software is the best to assist me in backing up my DVD movies?
Thank you for any help you can give me. 🙂

DVD Shrink is the tool you are looking for. It is freeware and very simple to use for backing up DVD's and region free.

Look for a drive that is dvd -RW and dvd +rw.

I think, but am only 50% sure ( ;-) ) that if a dvd is +rw, then it is also -rw by default.

It could be the other way round, that is why i am only 50% sure!!!!

montag451 the plextor PX-716A is a DVD + - RW

AristoV300, is there no a good comercial name brand software that will do this?
AristoV300 ?
I overheard someone at work talking about backing up theirr DVD's, and they said something about having to take the original DVD information and copy it to another format on their hard drive and then to the blank DVD. Is that what one does, and does that software you recommended to that along with any other comercial software do that also?
