plextor cd-rw or yamaha cd-rw?

the yamaha 16 X 10 X 40 and the plextor 12 X 10 X 32, which one? the plextor have a burn proof technology but just 12 X and 32 X for the cd-rom, in other side yamaha have 16 X with 40 X cd-rom speed?

nope, plextor's just have a 2meg buffer. it doesn't matter though with burnproof

I have the TDK VeloCD 12x10x32x (exactly the same as Plextor) and I would have strong reservations in picking the Yamaha if it doesn't have burnproof. I think the speed difference that you are talking about are minimal. Might make a difference of a minute. If price is issue try the TDK VeloCD. It has a $50 rebate right now. I got mine for $130 with Buy.com 30off/150 deal.

I've burned about 60 cd's so far and not a single coaster.

the yamaha got's a giant 8mb buffer. Reviewer's say they had to go thourgh extraordinary lenghts to get the IDE plextor 12/10/32 with 2mb buffer to activate burn-proof. Now yamaha 8MB buffer = 4X larger than plextor 2MB buffer. Yamaha 16X speed = 1.33X faster than plextor. That means, it's gonna take sumthing cataclysmic to get a buffer under with the yamaha.

So in conclusion, the yamaha. Unless you tend to defrag your HD, benchmark HD, and play UT at the same time as u burn cd's.

The new 16/10/40 Plextor is coming, so you may want to wait a few weeks for that and see what Plextor delivers, or you could get the 16/10/40 TDK which is a rebadged Sanyo BP1400P. All 3 drives have burnproof.

The Yamaha doesn't really do RW at 10X, for which it gets some criticism, but it can read sub-channel data from data CD's, which the TDK/Sanyo's cannot do, at least not with the current firmware, and according to 1 review I linked, the DAO/RAW is currently broken. Personally, I would wait on all these new drives and wait to see how these issues are addressed. Maybe Plextor can top them all.

Check out Storage Review's review of both of these drives. After reading it i opted for the plextor for many reasons.
