Plextor CD-RW 12/10/32A problem.....

Hello,

I just got a new system and it has a plextor plexwriter 12/10/32A CD-RW. It has been working great for the first week, however, today I tried to use it and it would NOT recongize ANY cd in the drive! It is listed in "my computer", but will not read any disks, let alone burn anything.

I am getting 3 blinking light, too. I went to plextor's website and it said that either my tray won't open or close (but it does) OR it can read the media (I tried various types of cds). I opened up the case and triple check the ide cables and everything is fine.

What do you think?

Is it defective?

Do you have any suggestions?

I will have to go get one (cleaner).

I have only had the computer for 2 weeks. Do you really think it is dirty?

That's really odd, the cable's must be correct if it's listed in "My Computer"
My guess is that you have a defective plex 🙁

Yeah, that is what I am affraid of.

I did flash to BIOS 1005A, could that be the cause of concern?

I heard Plexwriter is very pick about which master/slave it is on.

Well, I guess my Plexwriter is no good. Hypersonic-PC is sending me a new Plexwriter, which is really cool. I will just swap out my bad one for a new one. They said I should have it by about Friday!

Try downloading patches for your CD-RW software. Plextor has just releases new versions of Plextor Manager 2000 and firmware, both which fix many bugs in earlier software. New patches are available at www.plextor.com.

I talked with both Plextor and Hypersonic and THEY don't think it is a software/firmware problem. The drive will NOT read ANY disk. It did work at one time, but no longer.

Thanks for the info, I will download and give it a shot. What do I have to lose.
