Plextor CD-R & Win2K

On my Win2K Professional system I'm using an Adaptec 2930U SCSI adapter and a Plextor PlexWriter 8/20 CD-R.

Win2K automatically installs a driver for my SCSI card, and I cannot find an updated one for my card on the Adaptec website.

When Win2K starts up (everytime) I have to refresh my Device Manager to get it to find my CD-R. It always has my SCSI card installed, but I must refresh after every boot in Win2K in order to use my CD-R.

Is this a known problem, or is there a fix or setting I must enable to get it to recognize my CD-R on startup?

Thanks,
CAFlynn

make sure in the scsi bios that you do not have wide or ultra negotiaion enabled. Also lock in the max transmit speed for you cdr's scsi id at 10mbits.

Lemme know if this helps

I think this is a (known) problem with the SCSI card. One of my systems use an Adaptec 2940 (instead of your 2930) and it does the same thing. It can ONLY find the SCSI CD-ROM's and CDRW's when starting, not if I reboot.

I tried with brand new CD ROMS and it still does the same thing. And do not bother with Windows because I tried using Win 95, Win 98, Win NT and Win 2000, and it does the same thing no matter which one I use. The only difference is that Win 95/98 freezes (keeps looking for the CD ROM's forever) if I reboot, and it does not even move unless I shut down the computer and then restart it.

I have a similar setup with a 2940 uw and have not had those errors after I did the steps listed above. I sounds like a possible bad card or a bad terminator or even cable.
