anyone got this burner? how long does it usually take you to format a cd-rw? i'm using the software that came w/ the burner, adaptec directCD wizard to format the cd-rw before burning things on it.. it's been formatting for 41 minutes, and it said it should take only about 10 to 18

anyone know why? this is the third cd-rw ive tried to format.., the first one it finished in like 20 min, the second time i did it, it went to like 45 minute and i got impatient and just stopped it, and now this time it's up to 40 minutes so far and still going

well there's nothing on the cd at all, i just bought the cd-rw disc, and i thought im supposed to format it first before i burn anything on it

You only have to format it if you're going to use it with DirectCD. (and it does take a long time) DirectCD uses the CDRW like if it was a floppy disk. You can drag and drop in windows, erase only certain files, etc...

You don't have to format them if you use CDRW like normal CDR. Just burn the stuff you want on them, and erase the whole thing when you want to use it again...

Speaking of DirectCD this is an FYI. DirectCD formatting is proprietary, meaning you can only give the CD to someone who has DirectCD installed. I also haven't had any luck reformatting them, they just never seem to work right for me. However, the DirectCD is a handy feature none the less. I can't wait until they ISO a format like DirectCD and I think Nero has something similar.

that doesnt sound right...1 to 2 minutes was all that mine took to formatt even a practically full cd using directCD...i had a 16x plex but 4x differance couldnt translate into that kinda time....what southbridge chipset are you running on your mobo

nero has InCD but it is used to formatt cd-rw's it doesnt recognize cd-r's...well atleast i dont think it does...just got the prtogram with this yamaha 20x burner

I've recently checked Plextor http and they have a new firmware which is suppoed to improve CD-RW read and write speed. I have not upgraded yet since I'm satisfied with mine.😎
