You're talking about low-profile drives for notebooks. Different animal/different mechanism entirely than a standard sized PC drive. Those work almost identically to the way a 3.5" floppy drive (or perhaps more accurately, like an LS-120 Superdisk drive) works as far insert-eject.

I agree with you on the Notebook info Zepper as it does need an adapter to run on PC's via USB or IDE but still yet Specs are:

Interface: IDE / ATAPI
Write Speeds: DVD-RAM 5X, DVD±R 8X, DVD+R DL 2.4X, DVD±RW 4X, CD-R 24X, CD-RW 16X
Read Speeds: DVD-ROM 8X, CD-ROM 24X

Ok, so just because you stick the disk into a slot makes it slot-load... I guess I'll have to narrow that to the new Plextor being the first motor assisted insert/eject, standard-sized slot-loading burner for PCs.

not to keep this forum off topic of OP, buuuuuut... sony makes a tray car deck. dont remember the model but check their site, i know at least one brand makes it..
 
finally. i like those drives. used to use nothing but pioneers. its just convenient..i hate the tray. and 8cm is useless bullsh*t.

Slot-load DVD-ROM is fine, but not for the burners.

I can see it now "My TY media is STUCK!"

Good for the marketing department though 🙂

Um, I've NEVER had a DVD stuck in my slot loading Pioneer DVD-ROM drives. NEVER. Why would the burner be any different? There is also a manual eject just like tray loading drives.

Calm down there Jack. Guess what? Others HAVE and certainly the possibility is HIGHER in a slot load than a tray load. FWIW, I've had slot load ROMs (SCSI Pioneers) with no troubles either. Perhaps the humor of the reply was lost 🙂 😛

Hey, I was always calm.

As for the people that DID get their discs stuck in earlier models, Pioneer later added the manual eject function to their newer DVD drives. That resolved 99.999% of the "disc stuck" issues. I'm sure the Plextor has that feature too. The only issue that slot loading drives would have is with CD that weren't the standard size. And quite frank, 99% of the people out there don't even use that type of media.
