whenever a cd/dvd is present in the drive the sataus light on the front of the benzel, blinks twice withe the orangish led. why is this? also windows xp pro recognizes it as a cd-rom and not a dvd-rw.

Mine does that too (the blinky thing).

Mine also locks up the whole GD computer when a DVD is in it.

Paid put the nose for this thing and it is by far the worst drive I have ever had.

ps it also is reconized incorrectly

i self-tested the drive and all i ever got for like 15 minutes was the double amber led code. is it RMA-able? it does nto recognize cd/dvd becuase of an "interal I\O error"

Please follow all steps outlined below:

1. Re-boot your computer. Check again.
2. Make sure the disc is not upside down or scratched
3. Try a "known good" disc that can be read in another drive or could be read previously in this drive
4. If this is a recordable or rewritable disc, try another one from a different manufacturer

If you still get blinking LED lights after going through the troubleshooting process your drive is most likely defective.
