We'll see. First off, it's unknown whether it will support +R bitsetting. The hope is that it will given that the PX-712(S)A does. Second, the 8MB buffer is nice, but it's only a couple of extra seconds of protection when burning a DVD at 8x speed. Third, there are some quality issues with their latest drive. How widespread is unknown but it's hoped they iron these out for the next gen.

In the good news front the 16X +R, 8X +RW, and 8x -R are excellent news and as good as or better than any drive on the market. Dual Layer support for those dumb or rich enough to spend $12+ on a disc is there but given the 4x DL burn speed you're still looking at over 30 minutes for a burn which imo is still unacceptable. DL support won't matter until DL DVD prices are under the $3 mark a piece and burn speeds are at least 8x where a full DL burn will take less than 20 minutes.
