Plextor 716A Freezes During Burning...

Every time I try to burn a new CD, when it gets to the "writing files to CD" screen, my CD drive starts spinning loudly. After about 30 seconds, it stops spinning, but my computer just freezes the same exact moment. By freeze I just mean nothing moves...

What's happening? I thought it might be a RAM problem, wayyy toned down my timings and FSB, and I still have the problem.
 
Try the drive in another system if you can - let it run the self-test. If it fails that one, RMA.
If not, could be a dodgy cable or something trivial
