Plextor 712A Dual Layer?

I have a Plextor 712A and I thought it was well known that the drive is great, but it doesn't have dual layer burning. Is this a mistake or is there some new firmware or something?
 
might be possible witha firmware upgrade though, since the NEC 2500A could be "upgraded" to support DL. The laser should be strong enough.
 
there are firmware upgrades out there to enable DL, from what i understand... I dont have this drive so can't tell you for sure
 
I would not worry about it. Plextor may be able to flash it. Even if they can't, 10 DL discs cost more than a 16x DL writer! So, you can wait to upgrade/replace. Shoot, except for DL, there is not media as fast as your burner yet 😉.
