Plextor 708a rebate

OK, you guys may be willing to spend close to $200 to get that 12x Plextor. But hey, the 8x 708A aint bad, especially with the $30 rebate bringing it down to $112.

Question: does anybody know if that rebate is good on the OEM version? The rebate form lists a whole bunch of valid UPC codes, and I don't know if any of them are OEM versions.

The best I've found (retail) is $110 (incl ship, after rebate, no CA tax) HERE.

OEM $138 (free ship, rebate(?) not incl, plus CA tax) HERE
(Jeez, I should just go for the retail!)

If you know of a better deal a post is good for bragging rights!

hrm, that price for the retail drive is quite nice. I'd just on that one and get the rebate. Why risk the rebate to save a few dollars (buying the OEM)?

Oem doesn't come with the retail box so no UPC, and that's required to get the rebate.

You may also want to consider the Plextor 712A since it's only $160 + tax at bestbuy

Yeah well, I only have $100/mo allocated to computer purchases (recovering adict), and that would mean waiting another month!

Not only is it cheaper, but it's also on FREE SHIPPING. However, don't forget to include tax.

Only catch is that it is on back order for a few days.

Not sure what rebate you're looking at, but this one clearly applies to both the internal (A) and the external (UF). And (duh 😱) it says retail kits only.

Cool - you get the bragging rights. But I think I'll spend the extra $8.50 for a 1-yr warranty, over their 90-days.

You're right, I wasn't looking at the same rebate you were. I couldn't find a link in this thread, or on plextors web site (clicked on rebates area & got message that there weren't any at this time). The one I was looking at was on BestBuy's site. Funny thing, was that the ad for the OEM 708A is linked to a rebate that cleary states 708UF (no 708A) and retail box only.:roll:
