My first setup was the Plextor 40x Ultra Wide with a Promise Tech UW Scsi adapter. The adapter would never sync with the CD-ROM which gave me poorer data transfer speeds. I figured that if I got a new adapter, things would be fixed. I just got one of the Adaptec 2940UW adapters and I still get poor speeds.

According to CDSPEED2000, I get around 24x max on data transfers on a full 650MB CD, and 1MB burst (should be 40MB).

Setup:
Plextor 40x Ultra Wide
-Terminated
-Parity jumpered
-SCSI ID 3
-Latest Firmware
-sync transfer enabled
-disconnect on

Adaptec 2940UW
-SCSI ID 7
-sync on (40.0MB)
-wide negoitation on
-disconnect on
-bios 2.20.0

If you can help me, please reply. Thanks.

You know the media you use for benchmarking can make as much diff in the results as anything. You can run the same benchmark with 5 different samples and get 5 differerent results. Your drive appears to be working average for a SCSI drive.. I wouldnt sweat it too much. My Plextors bench DAE on average of about 27-29 ..

You will never get a 40MBS burst with a CDROM.. hell very few UW Hard drives will do that.

My DAE is around 24x, but I was talking about Data Transfers. I was looking at some of the old reviews done on the Plextor Ultra Wide, and all of them showed 35+x max data transfers on 650MB Data CDs.

I was wondering why I kept getting 24x max on data transfers on 650MB data cds. I thought it was odd.

Oh well..
