Ok had to put that rebate thing in the title b/c people are extremely lazy and get mad when they click a link and find out there's a rebate involved, OH NO, I wasted a few seconds! anyway newegg has the plextor for 168 plus 4 shipping.

plextor

rebate expires on 10/31

rebate

I think its a pretty hot deal, hope people take advantage of this.

I mean this in a respectful manner, but I could use the reverse argument and ask why would someone be so lazy as to not place the info in the title to begin with?

Plenty of space for the info. Even better would have been:
Plextor 24x CDRW $148 after 20 MMIR @Newegg only $4Fedex

BTW good deal.

Nice price on the Plextor but beware the rebate is for a retail model, this won't qualify since you won't be getting a UPC label from the box...

Newegg also sells a retail version. Will that work with the $20 rebate? If it does, then the cost would be:
$185
- $20 rebate
+ $7 shipping
= $172
Is this still hot? Also, about TDK 24x at Costco for $134, I believe that one is a Sanyo. If you care about making working backups of SD2 protected CDs (most new games), Sanyo will not work. Plextor 24x will. So will the Lite-on 24x which is only $105 shipped from Newegg (no rebates required). But Lite-on will not copy certain Audio protected CDs which the Plextor 24x will.

A little OT but...

when are they coming out with a 48x?
I have a 12x and don't want to spend over 100 bucks just to shave off couple of minutes.

If they will come out with the 48x or higher it's a different story but until then I'm satisfied with my 12x.
----edit---
forgot to mention that it's a good deal.

Thanks for trying hkssupra69;)

Notice that the OEM drive with shipping
is exactly $20 less than the Retail drive with shipping.
I find that amusing, I guess the retail drive would be
better if you need a cable or screws.
Would that be the only difference?
Is more software included with the Retail drive?
Guess I'll go read the Newegg page again.:D

TDK announced a 32x burner by december. damn. i got a 24x TDK couple weeks ago and i'm not really impressed with it in terms of speed. it's my first burner so i have no reference to compare with slower burners. sure ive used slower burners on friends computers and i cant complain since it wasnt mine. anyways, 24x is still slow enough that time doesnt fly when watching it. i just want something that can be burned from when commercials start on tv until right before they end. or something that can be burned less than it takes to finish a mp3 song. so come december, i would like to upgrade to the 32x model, if proper funds are met.

Damn, that sounds pretty demanding to me. But then again, my first burner was a 2x and my last was an 8x so 16,24,32... it's all the same to me - just FAST!

That plextor is a nice burner. If I had to buy one today, I would buy the lite on at newegg at about $110 inc shipping. But I am waiting for 32X lite on..

Just FYI I heard the Plextor has done something to the new firmware and you are not able to burn SD2 disks anymore, I am looking at getting one of the Lite On, might not be built as well as my old Plextor but with the speeds changing as fast as they I will probably get rid of it and buy a faster one or a DVD-RW drive any way.
