I'm trying to burn a video CD and when I start the burn it will start the lead in and then abort. I'm get "Power Calibration Error". I've never seen this before, this drive has worked for 6 months, burning everthing with no problems. It just started today. I have booted into both XP and W2K and get the same problem. Antone know whats up with this thing?

thanks,

Which firmware are you using?

1.09 is the latest, so try that if you don't already have it.

Use some reputable media such as TDK, Fuji or Kodak. Avoid the cheapest stuff you find or Memorex brand.

rb56,

The PX121032 runs a check called the OPC. This check determines if the write speed you have selected to burn (most probably 12x) will be stable on the disc.
If you are having Power Calibration Errors, it probably means the disc is cheap. If you need to burn anyway, either try a slower speed, or in Nero, in the "Choose Recorder" menu (reached by pressing CTRL+R), turn Burn-Proof off, which works for a couple of people.

Well, I've updated the firmware, tried three different brands of disks, tried to burn at 4x without burnproof and I'm still getting the same errors. I tried the xp burning software and cdclone also. I can play music cds and read data disks.

I tried to check a disk with CDR Identifier and it comes back with no recorder found?

Is there a test I can run to see if this thing is dead?

rb56,

Try this method, works for me when that used to happen to me:

-Turn the computer off and open the case
-Disconnect the Plextor IDE ribbon, power shouldn't matter.
-Turn on the computer and let it boot without the Plextor connected.
-Turn off computer and reinstall Plextor.
-Turn on computer and let Windows reinstall Plextor drivers/etc/whatever.

Hope it works.
