plextor 12/10/32 troubles

i installed a plextor 12/10/32 into my secondary machine just recently. The drive is acting up, however 🙁
Whenever i try to burn a cd...it quits half way through the process in Easy CD Creator (newbie software, i know). It stops about halfway through, ejects the cd and asks to insert a cd. I reinsert the cd it was writing to, however, and it keeps asking for a cd. I inserted a blank cd and it continues writing...wtf?

When i burn a cd with just one track, it burns and finishes fine. Whats going on here?

I installed the latest firmware, plextor does not offer a driver for my OS.

OS: Win2k SP1
Burning Software: Easy CD Creator 4

any help appreciated, thanks guys
