Plexiglass

Dumb question first:
I can cut plexiglass o na tablesaw with any blade...naturally cut it fairly slowly.

2)
Where to buy it? Home Depot didn't carry it last I looked. Might not have looked i nthe right place though.

Probably, but YMMV. And yes, home depot carries it (bought some last night from there, acutally).

HD does carry it. I think it would be best to cut it with a fine blade in a jig saw - cut at slow speeds. Ensure you brace the underside with a thin layer of plywood, otherwise it will easily crack.

Awesome. Good to here Home Depot carries plexiglass. Have to go there anyways.

For cutting, I'm reading alot (thanks to google) about cutting it. Apparently the table saw isn't such a great method. Scribe and snap is hte way to go and beyond that, there are actually tools made tos cribe with. Some sort of Fletch-Terry tool as people seem to call it. I think that's hte manufacturer, but they might be hte only manufacturer.

If you use a high-enough tooth count blade, table saws are fine...

Scribe and snap is a PITA, but the safest.

sounds like you can scribe it with a razor blade if scribed several times.

get the lexan ones if you can. those are pretty much unbreakable whereas plexiglass crack easily if you're not careful, but they are a bit more expensive.

Will lexan cut easily on a table saw?

To answer a previous question. These are for DIY windows for the basement. Long story short, I'm simply trying to fight some drafts off from widnows in the basement. The little tiny ones at hte ceiling in the basement. And this is a simple/elegant solution. I know it may sound stupid, but it you look at the situation, it makes the most sense. I'll end up having double or tripple pane windows in the finished portion of the basement.

I cut Lexan with my table saw just fine. I've also had to dado a piece. Never had a problem.

We cut it at work with saws all the time. They are not even special blades. Just a compromise between blade speed and the speed of cut which are all variable on our equipment. Buy the acrylic called optix. We make it 🙂

AWESOME! I just read that a bandsaw can be used and it will prevent cracking, etc. And ... as luck should have it, I have access to a bandsaw! YES!
