Plex but not Plex

I recently gave PLEX a try, and while it is a bit janky (browser interface doesn't seem to always work 100%) it works very well for streaming to my Roku or my S4 when I'm out and about.

The only thing is some of the features I'd like to use (ie download or "sync" the media file to device) on Plex are restricted to the paid subscription version of the program.

Are there any other programs that accomplish similar things as Plex that are free or are without subscription based pricing?
 
Media Browser is coming out with a new version that does all Plex does, and more... plus for WMC users like me it's a godsend.
