how 'bout I just promise to snag the book out of the glove box and bring it in with me when I need a part? if I'm in the auto parts store lookin' for somethin' fancier than window cleaner, it's a sure bet I'm the gopher (pick up an air filter while you're out) rather than the mechanic..

I mean for stuff like headlights, wipers etc. i can understand not knowing what engine you have, but when you're asking for an oil filter, PCV valve or hell even headgaskets, i should hope that you know what motor you're working on.

seriously, has anyone ever asked you for a headgasket without knowing what engine is in the car?

When I worked at Advance YEARS ago, that happened more than once. Most of the time if was the wife or friend of the peson working on the car. And they would juts say "I have a camaro, I need a head gasket?" So I would ask, DO YOU? Yea, but why do I need to know the engine size, if its carb or F/I, aren't you supposed to know that. NO!!!!!!!

So yes it does happen. People even would ask if we installed anything from starters (which I understand as Adavnce has a problem of showing the parts people installing EVERYTHING in the ads) to engines.

The only job where I could swear at a customer and NOT get fired. And of course after some one is about to leave mad, ALWAYS would say "THANKS, come back again real soon" 🙂
