During office hours today, I was chatting with a friend of mine. She is a nice Chinese girl in the PhD program in my department. Her english is fairly good and she is nice to talk with. I guess I am an American she feels comfortable around because she often asks me to define slang words or phrases that she does not recognize.

Today, she asked me about the word preppy. I tried my best to define it then I remembered the Urban Dictionary site. I showed it to her and looked up preppy for her so she could read their definition. Then, she was trying to think of more slang words to look up but was having trouble. I suggested that we click the random button to find a word. The definition that popped up was DP (look it up if you don't know). She was not familiar with the concept and I explained to her that it was probably not appropriate for us to be discussing in the office. She said she would look it up later at home. That was an awkward situation.

Moral of the story: clicking random on UrbanDictionary.com is potentionally NSFW.

Yeah, common sense tells me not to show a co-worker any Web site that has the definition of "hot lunch" -- but thanks for the heads up...

Little did I know. I have only followed links through ATOT and those were typically things like "nef" or other silly little words that had no vulgarity. It never even crossed my mind that there might be vulgarity on there. Oops.

Another word to look up.
