I need a decent set of earbuds for work. A lot of the time I have the exhaust fan going, so I wear earbuds to block out the noise.

I've used Plantronics Backbeats and I love the sounds, hate the crap battery life. I bought the Backbeats 2 since they advertised 4 hours and that turns out that its 4 hours if you use their charging case. So its 2 hours on, sit on the charger for an hour, then 2 hours on. That doesn't suit my needs.

I don't need crystal clear sound. I don't need to feel bass in my toenails. I need something that will block noise, sound decent, but mostly last for as long as possible. I have wired buds that work OK but the cord gets in the way when I'm working.

I'd like to keep this as cheap as possible but I'm ok with spending money on something that will do the job.

just a pointer, not a specific recommendation:

If you want some cheap and effective noise-blocking, look at noise-isolating buds (they look like ear plugs, rubber dome that seals the ear canal)

Noise isolating-> http://www.headphonesunboxed.com/what-are-the-best-noise-isolating-earbuds/

not noise isolating, no rubber dome-> http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MX-365-Earphones-Blue/dp/B005920DVA

additionally, you can look at active noise cancellation earbuds, if the noise is too much even with noise-isolation

One person ranking of earbuds - pick a model with the price point you desire. Make sure it has a microphone (if you require one). There are a lot of very good options for under $100 and some fantastic picks for less than $130.

One comment is sound quality/isolation has nothing to do with build quality so you can read a bit more once you pick a model or two (if such matters to yourself). I personally have 4 or 5 pairs ranging from $15 to $200. The only pair i truely regretted was my first pair from a popular company (it was also a popular model but sounded like crap).
