comparable systems from aberdeen inc, polywell, and micron all cost in the range of $3,100-3,200 (that is also with a few sacrifices, i.e. no built in raid...or a lower quality sound card, etc.) I am getting everything i need for $2,290.28 (with shipping and sales tax). This includes....
1.4GHz Athlon (overclockable, of course)
512 MB PC2100 RAM from crucial.com
Abit KG-7 RAID motherboard
SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 w/Live Drive and remote
19" Sony FD Trinitron CPD-G400
Antac Mid-Tower KS282 case w/300w PS
2 IBM 60GXP 40GB Deskstars
Plextor Plexwriter 16x/12x/40x CD-RW
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM w/hardware decoder
3Com 10/100 NIC
VisionTec GeForce3 64MB w/TV out
Fans include Turbo System Cool 2x, processor fan Z1-D, Buss-Cool, and an auz 80mm Fan all from PC Power and Cooling
Logitech ITouch keyboard and Cordless Mouseman Optical mouse
Sony 1.44MB 3.5" floppy

That is about it. What do you guys think? This is my first time building a computer from the ground up i am wondering if i am on the right track and if anyone has any information or suggestions, please tell me 8^)
Thanks
Jinkinz

Sounds like a kick system, just about everything I'd want in a PC. KG7-RAID may be the best 769 board, but u might though save $70 by buying a different mobo then KG7 because it just came out and is still expensive. If you want a good RAID, DDR board then I would have to say Epox 8k7a ($119 on pricewatch.com).

The RAID version of the Epox board is EP-8K7A+ and you will be hard pressed to find it for much less than $150, but that is only $30 more than without RAID, so it is still a good bargain. That is a nice system, but with all of that, I think bigger power supply might be in order. Just a suggestion.

JayWalker if you message me your email (since i can't access your profile), I'll send you a Word2000 file with some interesting pricing and system configs in it.

Good choice, it is almost exactly what I am going to have after I get my KG7 Board.
I already bought 512 pc2100 Ram
The Power Supply upgrade is essential as it is recommended on AMD's sight to have at least 400w power supply for the 1.4 gig processor.
I have the Visiontek GF3 also with 2 - IBM 30 gigers
You'll have an awesome setup there.

Sounds good, great move with the Antec case.

You can get good CDRWs cheaper than Plextor too.
Hardware decoder?

Looks like you're going all out so enojoy and don't fry the sucker before you get to use it;)
