just put together a new system
im using a no name brand psu just to see this new sucker run
the hsf is on, the green light on the mb is on, the psu is on

but no video on the monitor :( (im using the onboard video)

my system is a pentium d
and the no name brand psu is like a 350 watts

could the weak psu be the problem?

Are you getting any beep-codes? Do the fans spin up at all? Are you able to get into the BIOS?

If the mobo wants a 24 pin connector and your psu is 20 pin, you will get problems like the ones you described.

I am using a 20 pin + 4 pin 12 v for the cpu
(but it does say in the manual that a 20 pin is ok..)
guess I have to get a 24 pin + 4 psu :)

I suppose its possible the psu is to blame because the +12v rail is too weak to initialize the video card (depending on what GPU you have) ... if you have a PCI video card you could substitute for it you can at least see if everything else is ok, however the problem you are describing has happened most frequently to me as a result of the motherboards BIOS not correctly ID'ing the cpu.. are you 100% sure both the MB & BIOS version you have installed are compatible with Pentium D?
