2 GIG OF RAM 8500

ATI 1650 256 RAM - idle temperature stays at 56 C playing bf 2142 rise up to 75 C

I got a cpu temperature of 35 degrees Celsius after several hours of playing WoW according to the easytune health monitor and i have a similar setup.
System temperature was about 41 degrees.

Q6600 G0 stepping, Scythe Ninja cooler with 120 mm fan
P35 GA DS3R motherboard, 2 Gig Cellshock DDR2-667, Sparkle 8800 GTS/320 MB.

There was almost no temperature increase to be felt at the plate under the motherboard (very different from the AMD X2 3800 i had before).
How much your CPU temperature will increase with overclocking, I cannot say, but I wouldnt be comfortable with almost 60 degrees even before
trying anything fancy.

Those temps are within the safe zone for a C2Q, but they're still awfully hot for one at stock speed. You can lap your heatsink and processor if you want and it will make things cooler, but it's not absolutely necessary. You should consider reseating your HSF, make sure you're using good thermal paste(you don't state what you use), and follow these instructions on how to lay the paste down. If that doesn't cause the temperatures to drop, you just may be unlucky as far as that chip goes.

As for overclocking, those temps don't necessarily preclude overclocking. If you can get to 3ghz without increasing the vcore, you'll have very little of a further rise in core temperature.

Considering you have the best air cooler out there, those temps are pathetic! I've got the original thermalright 120. I also have the Tuniq 120 tower. You need to get some arctic silver 5. If you've got that already, a hammer might come in handy.

You can try to reseat the cooler, but the problem is probably that your ehatsink and/or CPU aren't flat. Use a razor blade to check if they*re flat, but your heatsink probably needs lapping.
