Please talk me out of wasting money on S-Video cables

I'll be getting 2 new cable boxes as part of my HTPC setup. They feature S-Video out which works perfectly with my TV tuner. I have some S-Video cables in the house that I suspect may have problems (pins look crooked) so I want to buy new ones and not waste time troubleshooting $5 cables.

Of course, in browsing online, my eye got caught on these $30 gold plated and shielded "premium" cables. If there a perceivable difference between the premium ones and NewEgg's $4 offerings? I'm not questioning if the price is worth it; I'm legitimately curious if S-Video cables come in different quality tiers...

Edit:

For refference, I am looking at these vs. these.

I doubt the quality is that big a difference. If you want solidly built s-video cables for cheap, try monoprice.com

I'm sort of agnostic when it comes to believing that cables make a difference (or not). I don't use the ultra thin junk that comes standard with equipment. I get one step up, something solidly built, reasonably thick, and looks like it won't fall apart. I've never had any problems and my equipment looks and sounds great.

Component is a lot better than s-video. I've pretty much stopped using s-video with my equipment.

Yeah, I've given away about a dozen S-video cables in the past few years since I've stopped using them.

Unless you have a long run you want to do, I think it would be a waste to spend more than a few dollars on some s-video cables. It's better than composite, but you're still limited to 480i.

Indeed, I'd like to forever leave s-video behind, but the TV tuner I invested in accepts S-Video so I'm stuck for the time being.

i love that monoprice website. got the plasma wallmount for 30$ (150$ at retail) and like 20ft of s-video for an absurd 8$ (or thereabouts)

when you're immersed in the plot or storyline, are you really going to think 'wow, my picture quality is 5% better than it was with the other cables! these were really worth it!'
