Here's what I'm thinking about

Antec SX835II - 80
Asus A7N8x Delux NForce 2 MB - 145
AMD AXP 2400+ OEM - 150
Corsair XMS Twin Pack 512MB total - 225

Grand total is just under 600

I'll be adding the CDRW and DVD drives from another computer, along with a pair of vid cards (GF2 and an MX PCI) that have all served me well with my two G200 17's. I need a computer for general office applications and some serious number crunching...past that...No gaming...blasphemy, I know. I just want a quiet, reliable computer that will perform.

I just want a rock solid system that will last.

questions:
1. what's the most quiet HSF combo that I can get for this thing
2. why am I getting a cpu with a FSB of 266, a mb at 333, and memory at 400...am I a retard? Help me out here!!!
3. am I wasting cash anywhere buy buying things that are too good...meaning, can I get away with a 2200+ instead? is it worth the extra $25?

Thanks in advance.

everything looks great except I personally would go with 2x 512 MB sticks of pc 2700 instead of the 2 x 256 MB sticks of pc 3200 for the same price, but everything else looks really good!

1. I notice that you live in Cali, I would wait til Fry's Electronic has the Antec case with the True Power 430 watt PS for 99.99 again. This will help your quest for silence. Here is the case --->>>Linky
2. If you're going to overclock it would help.
3. You could get away with Newegg.com XP2100+ speacial and then go buy yourself a nice quiet heatsink/fan combo. You can always choose to OC later.

So, does this mean I can "get away" with PC2700 ram instead of the PC3200? Am I going to be giving up any "noticable" performance?

Thanks for the tip, but can some one explain it to me...sorry for being a noob

1. I'm assuming that the true power PSU's are quieter then the smart power line?
2. Not going to overclock, so it really doesn't matter, but you can never go wrong with a good power supply
3. I need to know what the good HS/F combo is...something that flows and is quiet

Thanks for the help, keep it coming please!!
