Builtsmart 1100 P

I am a poor college student, and I've been looking for a laptop. The high school my mom works at is offering this laptop for $650. Personally, I don't think it's worth it, but I was hoping to get some of you folks' opinions.

I took a quick look at it. I personally can't see how the laptop is worth it. The processor is a Transmeta Crusoe. This processor is subsatantially inferior to the AMD and Intel processors rated at much less. I think this is a very important aspect of laptop performance, and even if it could, there isn't anything else on this model that helps it make up for the lack of procesing power. There are much better deals to be found. If you are interested PM me or look at the Hot Deals forum.

Get a used ThinkPad 600X or T20/21/22/23 series notebook. They're built to last and not too expensive anymore :)

Although i know that all ibms are built like tanks, isnt it better to buy a new Dell/Toshiba, rather than a used IBM?
I am curious cause i ll be buying one soon.

He wont find a t23 for under $900... that 1100 is a good deal for $699 IMO

From the name deerslayer I take it he hunts, at 7-8 lbs an 1100 is still roughly a pound lighter than the average rifle...add in the power pack and it comes to a weight that I'm sure he is quite accustomed to. Although I agree that just about any thinkpad would be a better built machine unless he is under 150lbs. and way out of shape a backpack with said laptop and say 10-20lbs. of books shouldn't offer much of a challenge(hell it might do him some good).

So deerslayer if can you tote 30lbs around and can spend $799+ S&H and wait to get $100.00 back then get the 1100. If weight is a concern Ebay an IBM T series(probably T22, T21, or T20)

What exactly is your budget by the way?

Everyone has their own opinions. I will state a fact here: You can find much more for an equal amount of money, sometimes less.

I gave a quick look and as far as new systems went $699 was about the bottom.

But he does not get a CD Writer/Dvd Rom Combo..... with the compaq, which he does with the dell. The Xtra RAM is welcome though...

It's probably a wash because with the Dell, he can get extra RAM for the price of getting the CDRW/DVD combo on the Compaq. Essentially the same deal. But with the Compaq, you get XP Pro as a free upgrade. A few weeks ago an extra battery was included free.
