Please suggest CPU fan alternative...mine's annoyingly loud!

I just built a new Athlon XP 1600+ system and I bought the Thermaltake Volcano 5 HSF. I thought that the fan was supposed to be relatively quiet, but I've found that I just can't stand it. I guess my old PC had such a quiet fan that I got spoiled. I like the heatsink, but I'd like to replace the fan with something that will cool my CPU just fine but with a lot less noise. I will not be overclocking so that is not a concern... please advise!

Thanks,

Nick

One more thing... I just found out about the Sunon KD1208PTS3 fan... it seems to be really quiet with a decent cfm (25dbA/31CFM). Is this adequate for the 1600+? Also, what are the downsides to a sleeve-bearing fan such as this one?

With the heatsink you have, you really need a strong fan (I know thermaltake promotes Volcano 5 as a qualified heatsink for XP1600+ but its performance is barely adequate). Since you won't be overclocking your cpu, I would suggest getting a ball-bearing fan (sleeve-bearing is more prone to a breakdown) w/ a minimum of 30 CFM.

Volcano 5 is loud for you????
Ha ha ha
Sorry to say but it produces about half the noise of a delta fan, I do not think you will find something less noisy which will be able to cool down your processor oin a adequate manner.....
Some CoolerMaster products are slighty less nosy than volcanos but I would not put them on XP....
