I bought this mobo
Athlon64-FX SKT939,nForce4 SLI,4DDR 4GB - GA-K8NXP-SLI

I got this PSU
FORTRON SOURCE FSP300-60PN ATX 300W Power Supply
http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/...operty&item=17-104-937

I do not think that the PSU i got will work with the mobo I got(tommorow). It does not have the extra 12v rail. Is this a correct assumption?

I got a gig of ram, amd 3200+ winchester, raptor 74 gig sata, etc etc.

I can not decide on which video card i should get though. I am under the impression that there is a technology shift going on, and some of the good cards won't be out until March. Is this true? My budget is around 250$

And so I am lookin through Nvidia's SLI technology. What I get from it is that, I can link 2 cards together for virtually x2 the preformance increase. Does it really work like this?

That power supply is too weak, anyway. You want more than 15A on the 12V rail, that's for sure.

You want an ATX 12V power supply with something like 20A or better on the 12V rail.

Good Point.

I have decided agaisnt a SLI solution now as it is wayyyy too expensive. Can someone recommend me a powersupply?

I went with a 6800GT

Look for one labeled ATX 12V with at least 18A on the 12V rail.

I recently bought a ThermalTake 420W for around $36 at Newegg. It came with every sort of connector or adapter to fit any mobo. It has 2 SATA drive connectors also. It's very quiet and it has a thermally controlled fan that only runs as fast as it needs to. The Molex connectors have little grippers on them to make it easy to remove them.

Antec Truepower supplies are good, also.

well thanks for all your help bud. I just realized though with shipping there and back to newegg, 15% restocking fee, and the fact that i threw away the box already, im just gonna have to eat the 32$ i spent on the powersupply.

Damnit! at least ill have an extra power supply around. Maybe i'll move it to the FS/FT forums. I havn't even used it yet.

I would suggest spending alot more than $32 for a PSU. That 6800 GT can really use power.
Unless you want to have to buy a new power suppy the next time you upgrade, get a PSU with 500+W and +12V@ at least 28A. This would be enough to SLI 2 6800 GT's.
If you want to save some money for now, a 400W with >20A@+12V will be sufficient. Just make sure to buy a good brand. Inexpensive PSU's are priced that way for a reason......they're cheaply made.

Yea, it basically works like that. You won't see exactly twice the performance, but close.

But I am correct in assuming that unless i am a hardcore gamer, the $$ isn't worth it quite yet. I heard that not all 6800's work together, you gotta buy them in twin packs. So, hopefully when I wana upgrade; I can just buy a another 6800 and SLI 'em.

anyone disagreeing with me?
