Hi,

Could someone please suggest a basic motherboard for a 2.4 P4 Northwood. The main criteria are as follows:

No Overclocking
DDR
Stable and Cheap motherboard.
No need for USB 2.0 or Firewire.

Do the newer P4 motherboards need any specific type of Powersupply?

Thanks,
Srikanth Koka

I used to use a soyo dragon lite, based on the SiS 645 chipset, was very stable, supports up to ddr333, has many features, I'm trying to sell it since I bought a Gigabyte board for dual channel, pm if you are interested 🙂

Edit: BTW, I am to using a 2.4B, nice choice.

On a budget, I'd suggest a 655 based motherboard. You get dual DDR functionality, it's as quick as a 7205, and it cost about $100 less.

I recommend an sis 648 or Intel 845pe chipset, if you don't plan on upgrading the cpu to 800 fsb. Two cheap and dependable boards are the albatron 845pev pro, and gigabyte 8sg667. You can get by with a sparkle (fortron) 300 watt unit for about $30. Newegg had a case depot fortron model with 120mm fan that draws warm air away from the cpu for only $32 (the fan is mounted on the side instead of the back). Sparkle fortron was one of only 3 power supplies recommended by tom's hardware guide after an extensive test of 20 or so brands.
