I have a 2.8 gig P4 in this Abit IS7-E board and the temp of the cpu reported by the Abit system monitor is about 48C idle and 58C under load(such as playing a game for a while) Should I replace the Intel stock cooler and what would anyone suggest. Would like something easy to install. I have seem some Zalmans that have to be screwed on and block ram slots. Would rather have one that use the standard cpu brackets to install. I love the little levers that hold it all together. My old Athlon Xp scared me everytime I had to pry the heatsink off.

I was thinking about a Glacier Tech Igloo 4350, the non pro version. Anyone suggest anything better. Also I found their website but can't find any place that sells them

If you don't mind the noise of the stock cooler, then don't change it. Your temps are fine (it start's getting critical at 70°C).

I posted my temps over at Rage3D and the gobers over there said it was running hot. I would rather keep what I got. I don't over clock and really don't want to mess with it. I do have some Artic Silver left over from an old computer. On my stock Intel HSF I just used the thermal tape provided. I thought about scrapping it off and using the Artic Silver.

Those are very respectable temps.

Remember abits read about 10c higher than other boards out there,so 58c at full load is a good temp.

i use a thermaltake spark7+ on my p4 2.4c oced to 3.2ghz

http://svc.com/noname4.html
up to 6000 rpm speeds on the fan

according to my digidoc readings i idle around 28c and 36c at full load thats at around 4000 rpm
the speeds are adjustable

its my personal fav

Yes, that will make a big difference. I would say anywhere from 5-7C. Give the AS a few days to settle in.

Do you have any reading or research to substantiate this claim? I'm only curious because I'm hitting 52C on my IS7-E and want to know if it's really 42C :D

It's difficult to qualify what the exact temperatures are, since all boardmakers interpret them differently. I'll agree with budman here. I've hit 70C w/my 2.6C and not had a problem with stability. Personally, I believe that Abits sensors are more accurate than others, as they change quickly (as the cpu would).

People on Abit's forum will likely corroborate these claims as well.

your temps are probably lower than those readings and even if they are acurrate, they arent that bad. I would work on better case ventilation rather than a new heatsink at this point.
